What to do on summer holidays for free

1. Head to the beach - to make it even more exciting maybe head somewhere you haven't been before. Rockingham foreshore is fun, the kids can swim out to the pontoons, jump off the jetty and snorkel the shipwrecks. When they get sick of the water they can play on the numerous playgrounds or get a game going on the beautiful grassed areas.

2. Check out your local library. Apart from borrowing books, libraries have lots of free school holiday activities. Did you know that many libraries also lend board games, PlayStation/Xbox games, and also have toy libraries?

3. Head down to Mandurah visitors centre and get your guide to Thomas Dambo's giants. Use the clues to find them hidden around the Peel area.

4. Have you visited the Kwinana Adventure Park yet? Voted Australia's best park, it has a huge amount of play equipment for children of all ages. The best part - it's wheelchair friendly and has a water play area so make sure to pack your bathers

5. Head out to the airport and watch the planes taking off at the Airport Viewing Platform - you could even make up stories about where they are going! Or head over to the Jandkot one - a public viewing area is located on Eagle Drive, adjacent to the Air Traffic Control tower and the Aviators Café. Disabled parking is available.

6. Cool down at the all new Maylands Waterland - suitable for all ages.

7. Have fun at the brand new Koolaanga Waabiny playground in Mandurah.

8. Practise learning the road rules by getting the scooters and bikes and check out ,The Avenue’s traffic park and playground. Located in Armadale.

9. Visit the Baldivis Children’s Forest.

10. Be a pirate for a day at Skipwreck Cove Playground in Golden Bay.

Things to do in the summer holidays at home

11. Check out, art hub for kids on Youtube and do a directed drawing. All you need is paper and things to draw with.

12. ,Get a Kids Craft Box and get crafty at home. The best thing about these boxes is that they come with everything you need - no need to be a Pinterest worthy mum or dad!

13. Make a family bucket list or vision board. Come with some things you would like to do as a family this year. You can even use this list to help you get started with ideas. Make a vision board by cutting out pictures of your ideas from old magazines, newspapers, flyers, and brochures and sticking them into a scrapbook or piece of paper. Want to go digital? Create a Pinterest board instead.

14. Play board games or even make your own board game! Borrow a new one from your local library (Kwinana library has lots!)

15. Host a fashion show - raid your wardrobes and the dress-up box and have a fashion show

16. Do a bedroom makeover (bonus you can clear out old toys and clothes and make room for Christmas gifts)

17. Have a movie night, put out some mattresses on the living room floor, string up some fairy lights, and make some popcorn. Try a theme (Disney movies, star wars) or pick a movie each.

18. Make a marble run. There are so many different ways to make these just google marble runs and you will have thousands of ideas.

19. Do a science experiment! You can do something easy like exploding volcanoes. Make a volcano out of paper mache or in a sandpit. Put in some bicarbonate of soda, and red food dye. Then put in some vinegar and see what happens. For more experiments just google science experiments for kids or easy STEM activities for kids - there are hundreds to choose from.

20. Host a challenge - it could be a reading challenge, cooking challenge or indoor bowling challenge whatever you like.
